OPENING
The New BLK
“Face FWD,” a solo show featuring new work from Gerard Pefung. Opens Feb. 17. Opening reception, 7-10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. The 200 sketches in the show document Pefung’s creative process from its earliest inception to his finished paintings. The process is one of free flow and instinct in which intuition is the guiding tool. Pefung is raising money and awareness for a public art project he is launching in his home country, Cameroon. The U.S. Embassy and the Cameroon government have agreed to allow Pefung to work with local artists and citizens of Cameroon to share the vision of street art, helping to change the way people think and live. Pefung has worked as a mentor in Omaha for three years, guiding and facilitating community art projects with students and at-risk youth. This energized, emerging artist will continue to explore ways to contribute to his home communities on both sides of the Atlantic through artwork. 1213 Jones St.

Durham Western Heritage Museum
“Cut! Costume and the Cinema,” through April 29. This special exhibit displays 43 elaborate costumes from award-winning major motion pictures. The costumes were created by and borrowed from the London costume house, Cosprop Ltd., the costumers responsible for Jack Sparrow’s coveted pirate costume in “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The costumes included in the exhibit are amazingly well-detailed period pieces from a variety of productions, including, “Phantom of the Opera,” “Sense and Sensibility,” and “The Duchess.” 801 S.
“Drawn to Fashion,” through May. 27. This exhibit features 150 fashion illustrations by Omaha’s fashion illustrator, Mary Mitchell. Mitchell worked for Omaha clothiers including Topp’s, Goldstein Chapman, Herzbergs, Zoobs, and many others from the 1960s through the ‘80s.
