Getting In the Spirit

Liquor store and deli make a great combo deal
By Peter Warne
Walking into the Spirit World (75th and Pacific streets) the other day, I had forgotten the huge selection of wines and specialty beers there is to choose from there. Add that to one of the finest delis in town, and it doesn’t take long to see you have come to the right place for good wine and great food.
However, it’s only the beginning of what Spirit World has to offer. As we walked through the store one of Spirit World’s employees told me everything you would ever want to know about their wines. He also made sure I was aware of the upcoming Scotch tasting on Friday, Feb. 11 from 5-8 p.m. It’s a single malt Scotch tasting that will feature Macallan and Glenrothes, just to name a couple. With featured speaker Monique Huston, (formerly of Scotch tastings at the Dundee Dell), this will be one of the best happy hours in town Friday. The cost is $15 per person with $5 cash back toward the purchase of any Scotch in the tasting. Contact Devon at 391-8680. Or go to spiritworld.com.
Another thing that caught my eye was an opportunity to sign up for a wine cruise, which launches from San Diego and travels to Vancouver. The stops in between offer several options to choose from, including tours of wineries, dinners, and sightseeing. The details are too many to list here, however, an informational meeting will be held at Spirit World on Thursday Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m.
